About us
The primary goal of the Bucerias Bilingual Community Center (BBCC) is to bring cultures together. The BBCC provides community education classes that afford opportunities to share various cultures, languages and traditions of Mexico with visitors and residents from other countries and to share Anglo cultures, languages and traditions with the Mexican population. Together we learn "Juntos Aprendemos" is the BBCC motto. The premise is that language and cultural exchange in a supportive environment expands global perspective and enhances job opportunities for the Mexican nationals who participate. The Bucerias Bilingual Community Center is a US 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization (EIN #98-0558096) and an Asociacion Civil (AC) in Mexico. The BBCC was founded three years ago, and has served over 650 students this past year, 56% of whom were Mexican and Indios. The other 44% were Anglo residents and visitors to Bucerias and the Bay of Banderas. BBCC classes are small and intimate. We charge our Mexican nationals 10 pesos (less than 1 US dollar) per hour and the Anglo students reasonable fees for language and other classes. The BBCC’s only funding sources are from the income generated by the classes, fundraisers and donations from Friends of the BBCC. Our 2009 operating budget showed an income of approximately $32,000. (US) and an expense of approximately. $30,000.(US). A detailed income/expense report is available upon request. The donation income was approximately $4000 (US). The majority of these donations have come from US nationals, because at this point we can not offer Canadians a donation tax receipt. The BBCC has a wonderful group of exceptionally well qualified volunteer teachers who teach the English language classes and two excellent Spanish teachers who teach the Spanish classes, including a bilingual conversation cafe. The BBCC also offers Yoga, Meditation, International Cooking and additional classes that promote cultural understanding. These classes are taught by either volunteers or contract personnel who donate a percentage of their fees to the BBCC. The total teacher hours for 2009 exceeded 1092. The mission statement, specific goals, email address, web site address and phone numbers appear in the enclosed brochures. Enclosed are the by-laws, the current schedule of classes (which can be found on the web-site), and a list of Board Members. Please feel free to contact us at the Bucerias Bilingual Community Center anytime for further information.
