SPRING CLASS SCHEDULES ARE OUT!
Don't forget to come to the
BBCC Conversation Cafe this coming Saturday morning at 10:00 AM!
You'll be glad you did. And, bring a Mexican or Anglo friend. We put Spanish speakers in conversation with English speakers. We then help each other with our respective language learning pronunciations and syntax. Your vocabulary and understanding of a foreign language will improve, but best of all you will find new friends and explore cultural differences. We laugh a lot, munch on cookies and drink coffee together in the BBCC garden and under the capable guidance of moderator, Bob Orthlieb who is fluent in both languages. Suggested Donation: 25 pesos.

English Teachers Needed
As Semana Santa is fast approaching and some of our most cherished and accomplished volunteer English teachers are getting ready to depart, you have a wonderful opportunity to avail yourself of their expertise and share their passion. Each year it is the same. These wonderful teachers hate to have to leave their students and it gives them great comfort to know that someone will continue the class, but it gives them even greater comfort to be able to share their knowledge, materials, and the classroom gestalt with an incoming teacher. The classes will be suspended during the Semana Santa holidays
(April 1 - April 13, but will resume April 16th).
So if you have even the slightest interest in teaching, please call the Center 329-298-3527or come by tonight or Mon around 6:00 pm. to visist with Mike Simpson and his class.Mike teaches a Level 2 Beginners class for adults Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 - 7:30 pm. He has been doing this for three years now. A retired University Coach, Mike is a teacher's teacher and brings a wonderful love of humanity to all that he does. Mike doesn't speak much Spanish, but he speaks the language of love and caring. The results are remarkable! It is an honor to have him on our team and should you choose to help take over his class, you will inherit the benefit of his efforts.
Janet Coleman also is leaving this month. Janet worked as an assistant to Master Teacher, Brus Westby last year and this year she took the class all on her own. She has taken to teaching like a duck to water and her class has grown each month this year as the word got out. Janet is another lovely soul who exudes caring and a generous spirit that is infectous. Janet's class will be taken over again by Brus for a short time before he leaves in April, so there is a brief window of time when a new volunteer could train with Brus. Think about it. This is a wonderful opportunity and the rewards are immeasurable. This is a class for adolescents which meets Monday and Wednesday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 am.

Our Mission
The BBCC was founded as a non-profit organization to promote Spanish/English education and interaction in the small pueblo of Bucerias, northeast of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The mission is to offer English instruction to Mexican residents to improve their economic well-being, and to offer Spanish to a growing number of part and full time Anglo residents who are interested in meaningful interaction with their Mexican neighbors. Cultural programs will also be offered such as Mexican Cooking and History, Meditation, Belly Dancing, Yoga and others as teachers become available. Classes for children and summer school day camps are also offered. "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead
The Vision
The Bucerias Bilingual Community Centre will work to create a community where children and adults share the joy of developing skills and learning their neighbour's language and cultural background. "When strangers start acting like neighbours...communities are reinvigorated." - Ralph Nader
Organizational Goals
- To establish a year-round learning center that augments the educational needs of Mexican nationals and English-speaking visitors.
- To develop a solid base of qualified English and Spanish-speaking teachers.
- To provide language instruction that meets a broad range of skill levels and learning needs and promote cultural exchange through community education classes such as Mexican cuisine, history, dance, art, crafts, nutrition, and yoga.
- To develop a wide range of language resource materials — textbooks, workbooks, teaching manuals, reference books, tapes, CDs, and computer-based programs — to supplement formal instruction.
- To establish a computer lab for teaching language courses, computer literacy, and internet skills.
- To establish a web site for promoting the Center and its programs.
Directions to the Center:
Here are directions to the Bucerias Bilingual Community Center (BBCC) Take the lateral going toward La Cruz at the second stoplight in Bucerias; you will go down the hill toward the arroyo; turn right onto Matamoros at the speed bumps in front of Carnes del Mundo. Go 2 blocks, turn right onto 16 de Septiembre and you are there! It is really quite simple to get there. If walking, from the ocean side, you can cross the highway on the overhead bridge and then walk toward PV on the lateral for about a block, turn left at Matamoros and walk 2 blocks, turn right onto 16 de Septiembre and there we are on the right hand side of the street.
